Today was Thyson’s 15th birthday so we went to Yashow Market to spend his birthday money. Two hours later (!!! Only because he queued up for half an hour for the fitting rooms!) we emerged from shopping and had a nice dinner at the Blue Frog restaurant in Sanlitun. Then we jumped on the subway and headed for Wanfujing Street which is like the central, classy, pedestrianized shopping district of Beijing, and where the night market is found. Before coming to China, Thy said the one thing he wanted to do was eat a scorpion, so Happy Birthday Thy! A scorpion is what he got, deep fried! He made some interesting faces, got laughed at by a number of people and spat most of it out, saying that it tasted like ‘poo on a plate!’ For the next half an hour he felt like he was going to throw up! What a funny birthday, and one that he won’t forget quickly!
